Spiritual Direction

Are you considering spiritual direction? Not every director is the right fit for every directee, which is why I invite you to schedule an initial consultation. This first session (about 45 minutes) is offered without a set fee. We can meet in person in East Central Illinois or virtually via Zoom—whichever works best for you.

The Purpose of Spiritual Direction

Barry and Connolly describe spiritual direction as:

“Help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequence of this relationship.” (The Practice of Spiritual Direction, p. 8)

In practice, spiritual direction offers space to:

  • Notice how God is present and speaking in daily life, relationships, and prayer.

  • Deepen your relationship with God, especially at the level of desires, feelings, and experiences.

  • Savor and respond to God’s gentle invitations and consolations.

  • Recognize areas of struggle, resistance, or “unfreedom,” and bring them into dialogue with God.

  • Experience greater interior freedom, deeper joy, and a fuller life with God, self, and others.                                                                                                                    ______________________________________________________________________Spiritual direction is less about giving answers and more about walking with you as you listen for God’s presence and respond with faith.
